Vogler Presentation

This week we were set the task of creating a 6-7 minute presentation on Vogler’s;The Writers Journey and make a summary to make a summary of the chapters that were assigned to that particular team. Then we had to compare Vogler’s Journey to Campbell who had previously written the The Hero’s Journey.

Hero’s Journey Video-

On the pages above I have quoted Bio information on Vogler and Campbell as I like to get to know more about authors before I begin reading their work. The reason behind this would be that it gives me an idea on where they have previously worked or what they had previously did before they were introduced into my life through apart of theirs. I have also include the Writers Journey archetypes and the stages of the journey so I have a reference of the correct order.

This is the title page of the chapter I was assigned. I was assigned the Trickster so my first thought was to find a common meaning on what the Trickster actually is and I also gave my view on what I love about the Trickster character which I quoted one of my favourite shows Supernatural as they have also featured this character within their series as the Archangel Gabriel also known as The trickster God Loki.

The next step was to summarise the chapters which I attempted to do effectively as I wanted to produce work that was condensed and precise. The reason behind this was when it came to creating the slides I wanted my work to be ready and well organised to save time and the end of the week. I did this by working with the book closely and using each subheading as a new slide/conversation starter.

Here I was looking closely at how Vogler’s work is similar but also different to The Hero’s Journey written by Campbell in 1990. Here I talk about the Methods to the Journey and the differences they have in how they have the archetypes effect or create the story. To me Campbell refers to the original myths and legends across countries and how each culture has their own version of the Trickster as this is the field in which Campbell is well-known for aka Mythology. Where as Vogler also explores these areas of fairy tales and folklore but he also looks at how the Trickster Archetype influences a story. These characteristics and themes of the Trickster has been brought back through the years with slight altercations and improvements for modern times.

Here I was looking at Tricksters that can be found within Contemporary Cinema and TV Shows some from the past and some from the present as shown above.

This was basically ideas/ thoughts that I had written down and explored within  a bit of detail on the stories-TV shows-films that were mentioned and how we believed them to be relevant to our chapter The Trickster.

Here I began to plan out what Caitlin and I slides could be by summarising the summaries that I had previously made to have really precise points and relevant information on the PowerPoint Slides and on my index cards.
